Visited Susteran Alma Orphanage

Susteran Alma Orphanage which accommodated 35 persons from baby to adult was very happy to welcome visitors from Mercure Pontianak management staff. The Nuns in Susteran Alma Orphanage were very friendly; they seemed to like they love their job parenting the children.

On Saturday, 7th November 2009, Mercure Pontianak management visited Susteran Alma Orphanage located at Jl. Sumbawa Gg. Wonoyoso 1 No.9 Pontianak. The purpose of this visit was to donate of 2 out of 10 notebook computers from an Australian donator that had stayed in Mercure Pontianak. Mercure Pontianak hoped to help these children’s education by donating these 2 notebooks. Sister Ima, one of the nuns in Susteran Alma, said those notebooks would be used by Odus Yasuus, who was studying semester 4 at Tanjung Pura University and Adi, who had just entered Widya Dharma College. Besides visiting Susteran Alma, Mercure Pontianak management staff are planned to visit other orphanages in Pontianak in the future.

After the presentation of the notebooks, Mercure Pontianak management staffs were introduced to the orphans in Susteran Alma. This occasion became meaningful when one of the children, Yosi shook hands with everyone and wished his visitors to be happy and prosperous. After that, the attention went through two boys who were bed – ridden, Ebed and Immanuel; they had hydrocephalus disease; people with hydrocephalus have an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid. Sister Ima said they have very strong sensitivity. If they were left alone in the room, they would felt lonely and cry, hoping that somebody would come to accompany them.
Before returning to Mercure Pontianak, all the staffs took picture with everyone in Susteran Alma. Everyone was giving their best smiles, but suddenly Yosi asked why not everyone said cheers? Finally, everyone was looking into the camera, and said “CHEERS!”
